I am a listener first.
That matters more than the awards, the publishing credits, or the speaking invitations, though I have earned all three. I am an HR consultant, instructor, executive coach, and board chair who has spent more than 30 years studying data and leading people across global locations and multiple industries. I have been called a big company expert with front porch common sense, and I take that as a compliment.
Here is what I believe People are good until they show me otherwise. One of the largest investments most businesses make is in their people, so that is where I focus. Every individual deserves the opportunity to perform and succeed. Tailored solutions beat templates every time, whether the goal is your career, your team, or your business. The workplace is a system, and when you understand the system, you can change the results.
I grew up in a family business and started working in second grade. We still run the bowling lanes in Falconer, New York, now in our 67th season. I had great mentors and wonderful jobs along the way, including VP-level HR roles at Cardinal Health, a Fortune 17 company, and at Reflectone, where I was a corporate officer responsible for HR and Communications. Fox Business and The New York Times have called on me as an expert, and my podcast, 'What the Heck Is Happening in HR?', has passed 300 episodes.
Today I work as a fractional CHRO, executive coach, and independent board director. I serve as Board Chair of BORVO HealthCare, where I also lead AI integration strategy for the organization. I teach for USF Corporate Training and Professional Education, and I lead program delivery and partnerships for WSI London's AI Superpowered HR Leaders program.
AI is the part people ask about most, so let me be plain about it. I am HR certified and AI amplified. I use AI every day in my own practice, I teach HR leaders how to build policy and govern its use responsibly, and I help boards and executives sort out what it means for their people and their risk. The technology is new. The questions it raises about work, trust, and judgment are not, and that is exactly where 30 years of HR experience earns its keep.
My approach to strategy is creative, and I execute detailed tactical plans well. I help change behavior through analysis, reinforcement, and changes in the environment. I believe in strong processes, good systems, and data paired with coaching to unlock performance growth.
Outside of work, I rescue and train bully breed dogs, helping change behaviors and environments so they have a better opportunity for adoption. There's an interesting connection to my professional work: when people change behaviors, organizations can improve performance and retention. When rescued dogs change behaviors, they can find permanent homes. Both have taught me more about patience and reinforcement than any textbook. I love music, theatre, art, nature, books, movies, and pop culture. HR and communications are everywhere.
